Common questions

The things people ask before a build.

Do you use WordPress or custom code?

Whichever suits your business. For most clients that’s a clean WordPress site you can edit yourself. Where a project needs something more bespoke, I’ll build it in custom code. You get the right tool for the job, not whatever’s easiest for me.

Can you redesign my existing site rather than start over?

Often, yes. If the foundations are sound I’ll redesign and re-engineer what’s there. If it’s built on something slow or fragile, a clean rebuild usually costs less in the long run than fighting it. I’ll tell you which one makes sense for you in the free review.

How long does a build take?

It depends on size and scope. A focused site is quick, a larger e-commerce or custom build takes longer. I’ll give you a realistic timeline before we start and keep you updated at each milestone, so you’re never left guessing.

Do you write the copy and supply images, or do I?

Either works. I’ll structure every page around what converts and tell you exactly what each section needs, so your words land in the right place. If you’d rather not write it, I can guide the copy and source imagery — just say so up front and we’ll build it into the plan.

Will my site be fast and work well on mobile?

Yes — that’s engineered in, not bolted on. Every build is mobile-first and tuned for real-world Core Web Vitals (the field data your visitors feel and Google ranks on), not just a one-off lab score. Most of my sites load in well under a couple of seconds.

Who owns the site and the code?

You do. Once the work is paid for, the site, the code and all the accounts are yours — no lock-in, no hostage situation. If you ever move on, everything goes with you.

Can you move me off Wix, Squarespace, Shopify or another agency?

Yes. Migrations and replatforming are a core part of what I do. I’ll move you across with zero downtime and no lost data, and take it from there. No drama, no awkward handover.

What happens after the site launches?

I don’t build and disappear. I’ll host it on a fast, secure, green platform and — if you’d like — keep it updated, backed up and improving on a care plan. One person who built it and still looks after it, for years.

After launch

Launch is the start, not the finish.

Every site I build can move straight onto a care plan: hosting, updates, backups and support from the person who built it. That’s how I’ve ended up looking after some clients’ sites for more than ten years.
